Art Walk Transforms Downtown Fort Myers, Our Culture
April 20, 2014
Pablo Picasso once said, ““Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
Living and working in a community surrounded by such creativity, talent, and beauty makes us a little spoiled. But we wouldn’t have it any other way! We at Ensite are located in downtown Fort Myers, which offers us an incredible front row seat for many community events highlighting local talent.
One of our favorites in particular is Art Walk!
The first Friday of each month, dozens of local and national artists line the Fort Myers River District flooding the streets with their creations. Art Walk is an opportunity for local businesses, patrons of the arts, and families to come together for a night of fun. The recent renovations to the River District showcases the one of a kind urban planning and land development talent we have in our community. The natural beauty of Southwest Florida is highlighted by the modern landscape design by the river and art overflowing onto the streets.
Art helps to mold our community. Art helps our children believe anything is possible. Art shows the beauty in what can become an opaque world. The local businesses that work together to make this event what is has become today are a testament to what we are capable of when we blend passion and creativity with a shared interest in cultural excellence. We are surrounded by beauty and talent in Southwest Florida that can sometimes be taken for granted more often than most of us would like to admit.
During Art Walk, downtown Fort Myers transforms into a sanctuary for artists of all kinds using all mediums, including metal, wood, beads, and canvas. The natural beauty we are surrounded by keeps our community thriving. Art Walk provides an opportunity for local businesses to open their doors even wider to the public passing by, giving us the chance to escape from everyday life, even just for a few hours.
Perhaps the best part of this anticipated event is the culmination of so many people from so many walks of life (and who could forget the food!) There is no one way of doing things, but rather being unique and thinking outside of the box is respected above all else. Every eye, object, and viewpoint is different.
Picasso also said, “The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web.” Picasso is one of the best examples of how someone can take something ordinary, and turn it into a masterpiece.
Keeping our community connected and alive requires a lot of behind the scenes collaboration. What makes Fort Myers stand out from the crowd are the people. Artists are all around us. The talented landscape architects, design consultants, builders, and community leaders are what make our city beautiful. Living and working in the Fort Myers River District definitely makes us a little spoiled…and we wouldn’t trade it for the world. “The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” – Aristotle
