The site design and engineering for the MedExpress location at the Atlantic North development in Jacksonville reflects the rapid growth and changes in the city’s East Arlington section. EnSite secured a modification to the existing Environmental Resource Permit to facilitate the construction of the more than 4,000-square-foot urgent care facility on a 1.5-acre outparcel overlooking Kernan Road North, which will soon expand from two lanes to six.

The plans for the site were designed to satisfy the permitting requirements of the Florida Department of Transportation, the City of Jacksonville and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, all of which are key stakeholders as development extends eastward from the I-295 Beltway. We produced plans for landscaping, irrigation, utility integration, erosion and sediment control, and paving, grading and drainage, in addition to an overall site plan that deftly integrates the building into a 61-acre shopping center anchored by Belk, Earth Fare, Academy Sports & Outdoors and LA Fitness.

EnSite previously performed site design and engineering for another MedExpress facility 6 miles away on Merrill Road, signifying the amplified need for medical care in the community. The Atlantic North clinic’s position between the Fort Caroline National Memorial to the north, the University of North Florida to the south, downtown to the west and the beaches to the east underscores its importance as a critical population center. The precision, care and detail embedded in these plans paved the way for a smooth, expedited permitting process that facilitates a vital service.
